here at control room recordings we feature analog only synthesizer recordings and one off and special projects. our last release was from the human league and we are pleased to be following that up with another titanic group from the 80s visage. following the tragic death of steve strange in feb 2015 visage and steve strange s family are planning a series of events to honour steve s life and commemorate the impact that he made on the worlds of fashion, music and style. one of those events is the fifth and final studio album from visage. as a bridge between the highly successful fourth album hearts and knives and this future album we are pleased to be releasing a vinyl only special single.

australia’s deep street soul, since signing to freestyle records in 2008, have earned a reputation as being right at the grittiest end of the hard funk scene who made a big impact from the outset - with even the mc5’s wayne kramer saying that their version of kick out the jams “... is the greatest version of the song ever recorded!”. from their debut self titled instrumental long player, to the 2011 follow up look out, watch out (and the addition of vocalist mighty may johnston) this band have grown, matured and honed thier songwriting skills, as well as maintaining their rare ability to really capture the essence of the original raw funk & soul artists that inspire them. 2016 sees them return with this quite spectacular new collection. whilst the diamond hard, driving grooves remain undiminished, there is also no doubt that the bands song writing has developed to an equally assured level. case in point is souls come alive - from monique boggia’s wurlitzer electric piano intro, the blistering horns and may johnson’s simply exemplary singing - the songs instant appeal will be lost on no one with an ear for genuine organic soul music. come alive also features guest vocalists joshua tavares and kylie auldist - come alive is deep street souls finest work - no if’s, but’s or maybe’s. it s a done deal.

if everything suddenly changed – what would that be like?
qnete’s ep is not the question and not the answer. it’s in a hiatus between hopes and fears, still maintaining an eager energy. within a short period of time all tracks were recorded straight to tape, raw and improvised. they remember the sun bath before the storm, when you feel that something is about to roll over you. they express the urge and need to sometimes just jump into the cold water to face what’s coming next. they linger in the nervous energy when you’re lost and don’t know what to expect. but they also talk about the hope of finding a safe place.

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

lee is a fan of deserts. another example of marshall jefferson s unassailable genius in the late 80 s, as he moved effortlessly from raw jackin gear through to redemptive vocals. nowhere near as famous as its predecessor -7 ways- on dance mania but arguably better. re mastered for 2016 and re issued in conjunction with trax.

finally available on wax, cv313 s classic -lost sequence- culled from the celebrated japan exclusive -live- double cd album released back in 2009. this was lovingly remastered by bazza @ alchemy mastering in london, paying close attention to every finite detail. this master has never sounded so good. on the b side there s a rare live version performed by intrusion at a loft event put on by the good folks over @ little white earbuds. this rare recording was reduced and stripped down, core traces of the original swim inside oceanic bass, and modulating frequencies creating an atmosphere all of its own. this is one for the heads.

handcrafted travel to japan, anxious and surprised with the sound of the japanese, kaitaro (tokyo / berlin). he is the artist chosen to bring the first vinyl version on handcrafted label. the japanese artist presents an ep consisting of two original faze 23 & lost & found, track that gives title to it and which has been remixed by the artists petar cvetkovic and enzo leep.

a sort of cabaret voltaire for the iphone age, drooids are a collective of three multimedia artists who produce electronic music using improvisational, often anarchic methods. utilizing a hodgepodge of gear both old and new, and not-wholly-quantized, they create a collage of sounds that verges on chaos before slipping back into a dark yet weirdly club-oriented beat. their live shows usually feature multiple guest collaborators, costumes, sculptural props and performative antics. for their debut release on lse we tried to capture the spirit of these shows and recorded over 11 hours of drooids improvising in the studio of the course of one week. those 11 sprawling hours then got edited down to these 4 snapshots, mastered and pressed in a limited edition of 200 (40 with original gelatin silver prints) for our 6th vinyl release.

theyre young and tough, and especially wonderful too, easily one of the most compelling harmony soul groups to ever hail from the windy city! the sets a chicago soul gem from the early 70s, recorded with a laidback, slightly tripped-out vibe thats different than the tighter styles of other groups from the same scene, definitely righteous at points, with some of the superbad modes you might hear from an east coast lineup like the delfonics or soul generation, especially when they were trying to get a bit more conscious in their message. arrangements are great – handled by tom tom washington, eugene record, and cliff davis, very much at the best brunswick mode, but again with a deeper sort of vibe too. the title cuts a monster, and a very fitting follow-up to their earlier sly, slick, & wicked track – and the album features 2 versions (vocal and instrumental) of a cut called this is the lost generation, a very righteous soul groove with a heavy production tip.

zadig is back on his own imprint with three nervous and raw tracks. he founds two of them in a * rush* folder, and after a few months playing those two tracks all around the world, he decided to release the package under the title of * lost tape* with an additional jam as a bonus beat. tape 1 is a banging and hypnotic long track, with a frenetic synth and explosives hats. tape 2 is more dirty, with distorted synth and crunchy beats. tape 3 is a bonus jam, made with machine drums only.

borrowed music return to wax see s a release that very nearly didn t see the light of day. between the years of 1995-99, toka project were writing tracks at diy s studio and releasing ep s with their label, s4g. these tracks were stored on dat tape (remember) and left for release at a later date. when the toka boys moved into their own place the dats were misplaced and presumed lost for good. unknown to anyone at the time, the tracks had simply been placed on a hard drive and forgotten about, until now. so, borrowed is very proud to present a slice of unreleased 90s house just the way we like it
